Wrote and Produced Interactive Multimedia Training for Fiber Optics Firm
Groundbreaking Computer-Based-Training Module Makes a Splash at West Coast Fiber Optics Conference
Situation: I was manager for The Light Brigade’s Media Production Department. We oversaw creation and production of the company's training manuals, videos and other materials. Our current assignment was to produce our first interactive multimedia computer-based-training (CBT) program to introduce the emerging Passive Optical Network (PON) technology at the West Coast Fiber Optic Conference.
Solution: I collaborated with the CEO and other subject matter experts on the content for our first CBT. In addition to an in-depth explanation of the mechanics, engineering requirements and applications of the new technology, we wanted to present highly specific information to appeal to the two audiences we expected to attract.
To provide additional value to the engineers, we included some highly technical instructional sequences with testing modules with links to technical resources. To add value to our business customers, we included footage of existing builds and on-site interviews with CEOS of public utilities, telecom providers, the Seattle Department of Transportation and property developers.
In collaboration with our subject matter experts I wrote the scripts and interview questions. I booked our guests, CEO and a videographer for the interviews. I worked with our Flash designer to create the technical animations. We purchased Micromedia's Authorware, put my graphic designer on a fast-track to master the basics and created an agreement with Micromedia to hold his hand for 30 days.
Results: The assembly went smoothly -- on time, on task and in budget. We delivered a prototype of the PON CBT at the annual West Coast Fiber Optic Conference, where it attracted considerable attention - partly due to the PON topic, but also because of the CBT interactive multimedia format.

Wrote and Produced Training Materials for Real Estate Training
Critical Short Sale Training Snapped up by Agents!
Situation: The real estate industry was in chaos and banks and sellers were imploding. Residential sales had disappeared and foreclosures and short sales were the only game in town. Real estate agents had no clue how to conduct these tricky transactions and make any profit. Funders' Choice CEO Mike Kaminski, a real estate attorney and mortgage broker, knew what to do. He created an intensive Washington State Certified Short Sale Course.
Solution: In addition to organizing his website and marketing efforts, Kaminski hired me to write and produce a 172-page " Short Sale Specialist Desk & Field Book", update a his 97-slide PowerPoint show and create hand-outs for this day-long intensive.
I researched current federal and state law. I contacted banks, mortgage brokers and interviewed real estate professionals for best- practices, clarification and personal insights into how to successfully navigate the current quagmire. I compiled legal, financial and transaction forms, professional advice and wrote sample "Sellers Hardship Letters." I produced a manual designed to provide everything necessary for effective communication between agents, sellers, buyers and bankers during these tricky transactions. I updated the PowerPoint show with detailed flowcharts of bottlenecks and turnarounds these transactions could encounter, time frames and best practices to keep the paperwork moving.
Results: Deliverable was a formatted 172-page Desktop Guide available to graduates of the CSSS course and 120-slide PowerPoint presentation for the day-long course on successfully navigating and closing residential short sales.
