It's Always
Been About Music
It's always been about music. I sang before I could talk, began playing violin
at age 10 and have been composing songs since I can remember. I began my music career
as a teen, singing for my supper on
Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. Since then I've sung in dance halls
and choirs, dives and resorts, concert halls and homes, on television and on
the radio.
When I began playing violin it was classical music, but I quickly picked up Bluegrass and
Country swing while in Hawaii. That was where
I played fiddle with Pele's Pickers and played for the grand opening of the
Aloha Theater on the Big Island. Back in Seattle, my music helped pay for college as I sang in pick-up bands and
fiddled for the
Pat Garvey Irish Trio.
Making Music
Anyway I Can
Between 1983 and 1985 I worked in radio as assistant manager,
audio producer and DJ for KCMU FM (now KEXP). I produced underwriting spots
and maintained underwriting logs. I composed radio jingles and
mixed sound tracks for student films. I wrote and produced
daily news casts and hosted daily morning drive time air
shift.
In 1988 I wrote, produced and hosted
Northwest Tunesmith
for cable television. The 12 episodes ran for three years.
In 1998 I became a music label producer. I wrote and produced my first CD called "When You're Ready." I am currently in production for my second CD called "Changing
Winds."
Songwriting
I've probably written about 1,000 really bad songs to get about 30 really good ones.
The good news is that I write more good ones now than bad ones.
And they keep coming. My songs inspire courage, hope and healing and some manage to do it with a dollop of humor.
My soul's dream is to write songs that become part of
our culture's soundtrack during these interesting times. I
welcome inquiries from A&R reps and filmmakers.
